Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Kilimanjaro - Arusha
Welcome to Tanzania! Your Arican History Expedition guide will meet you upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and take you straight to your first luxury hotel in Tanzania. This trip is an exclusive private safari so that you can enjoy your trip to the fullest! Tomorrow morning will be an early start for your first Tanzania safari experience, so use your first day to recuperate from a day of travel and soak up the sights and sounds of Africa. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Don’t be afraid to ask your guide questions beforehand and tell them your needs and expectations. Decide your departure and return times together and discuss specific animals you want to look out for! The best thing about a private African safari? You don’t have to be considerate of anyone. This trip is entirely your own. Tomorrow morning your safari will begin!
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park
Today you’ll be heading out to your first Tanzania national park: the magnificent Lake Manyara. Though one of the smaller national parks in the country, it still packs a punch. Expect to spot herds of elephants slowly trekking across the plains, vast troops of baboons in the thick forest canopy and – if you are lucky! – perhaps even tree-climbing lions.
You’ll spend the day in your private 4×4 safari vehicle with your experienced safari guide leading the way. A mesmerising variety of wildlife can be found around the huge soda lake, including buffalos, warthogs, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and plenty of pink flamingos. The shallow Hippo Pool is always a highlight and offers excellent opportunities for hippo sightings as well as spectacular views of the Rift Valley Escarpment.
Return to the lodge around sunset and enjoy a delicious meal, listening to the quiet hum of the wilderness.
Day 3 - 4 Lake Natron
After Breakfast you will drive 3 – 4 hours to Lake Natron. The lodge, being located on the road to the great mythical parks such as the Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti and the Tarangire, you can organize your safari while taking a break in the heart of Maasai country.
You will be immersed in the heart of another age, in a unspoilt wilderness where you will be able to observe the numerous birds that inhabit the surrounding area, such as pink flamingos, as well as wildlife. Every morning, large groups of giraffes bypass the lodge on their way back from the river where they drink every night, offering the visitors a magnificent spectacle.
The local people living around the lodge are mainly Maasai. They perpetuate their pastoral way of life by keeping their livestock and moving their herds in perfect harmony with their environment. At the lodge you will have the opportunity to meet them and discover their way of life and traditions.
You will be escorted by a local Maasai guide to Lake Natron activities and Engaresero River waterfalls.
Day 5 - 6 Northen Serengeti
The Northern Serengeti offers a chance to escape the crowds this region of the park – wedged between the Central Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve to the north – is remote and relatively inaccessible, which means it sees fewer visitors.
Travellers who make it to this corner of the Serengeti will be rewarded with gorgeous landscapes of green rolling hills, granite outcrops and acacia woodlands dotting open savanna, incredible wildlife, and most importantly, with massive herds of wildebeest and zebra making dangerous crossing of the croc-infested Mara River during the Great Migration in June and July and again in September, October and November. This sector of the park is also home to the greatest concentration of elephant in the Serengeti, as well as good numbers of lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena and diverse resident animals such as giraffe, topi, eland and hippo.
Day 7 Lake Victoria
Today after breakfast you will drive toward Western Serengeti before arriving to the shore of lake Victoria
A lovely way to spend a few hours in the late afternoon or a chill morning is on a small boat (not actual canoes!) with your guide weaving around the narrow water channels of the Lake Victoria flood lands.
You can get up so close to some stunning birdlife including Pied and Malachite kingfishers as well as a wide variety of weaver birds, sunbirds, Cormorants, herons, egrets and more recently prized sightings of Shoebills.
Day 8 - 9 Central Serengeti
Today you continue your safari in the Serengeti national park. Its stunning landscape can be seen in some of the most impressive nature documentaries. The endless plains and abundance of wildlife are unsurpassed. The annual wildebeest migration with more than a million wildebeest is probably the highlight of the Serengeti. It is a true spectacle and impressive to watch millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles thunder across the endless plains of the Serengeti.
Together with your private guide you will be looking for the herds across the plains. Apart from the migratory animals you will also get to see lots of other animals, like lions, cheetahs, leopards, and many more. Expect to be impressed by the natural beauty of Africa’s most famous park.
If you like to watch wildlife from another perspective, we recommend you to go on a balloon safari. It is an amazing experience to drift silently above the plains with herds of wildlife.
Day 10 : Ngorongoro Crater
Early morning you drive from Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The road leads through the Maasai Land, to the striking Ngorongoro Crater. This collapsed volcano is the main feature of the area and creates a unique ecosystem with a wide variety of vegetation. Enjoy the beautiful colours of the landscapes and the diversity of animals.
The crater is home to the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa and is choked with elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and even the rare black rhino. This is one of the best places to spot all of the Big Five. The views from the crater rim over the crater floor are incredible. Because of its natural beauty, the Ngorongoro Crater is chosen as one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders.
There is a range of activities to do in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, like visiting a Maasai village.
Day 11 - 12 Tarangire National Park
Today you depart after breakfast to Tarangire National Park for a Full day game drive. Since this is one of the less known parks in Tanzania, it still has an authentic safari atmosphere. The hilly landscape, with Baobab trees scattered against the blue sky, is breathtaking. Witness the worlds largest concentration of elephants. Herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen around the Tarangire River, drinking or enjoying a mud bath. Apart from elephants, Tarangire is a paradise for bird lovers. In the area around the swamps you can also see lions, leopards, cheetahs and even tree-climbing pythons.
Day 13 Tarangire - Airport
Today is your last day on your Tanzania safari. Depending on your flight, use your last morning to fit in a final, epic game drive. You will be picked up by your private driver and taken to, Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro airport in time for your return journey home.
